Byrd Park House
This home was designed in William Byrd Terrace, a historic enclave of architecturally significant homes in the center of Byrd Park in Richmond. Among homes built by notable architects during Richmond’s City Beautiful movement, this house is meant to respect the proportions and character of these historic homes while quietly adhering to a more minimal aesthetic. From the street, the house is a direct response to the massing, height, and Italianate roof profile of its neighboring homes while introducing a delicate series of arches that define the major openings of the street facade and garden loggia. Inside, a clean material palette, seamless plaster crown details, and abundant natural light create a feeling of calmness and connection to the natural beauty of the surrounding park.
